About

The Dominican University
Education Foundation (DUEF)is a registered Trust (NGO) with CAC,

We are focused on bridging the gap between theory and praxis (practice), between gown and the marketplace. It brings more clarity to the necessity of “good” education for nation building. It is founded on the philosophy that education is only “good” if it helps in the formation of “good character” in its subject.

This point is of critical importance for Nigeria in particular (and African in general) where social institutions are collapsing essentially because of moral decadence (poor orientation to money and success in life, dishonesty that fuels systemic corruption and bad leadership).

At DUEF we draw attention not just to the need to educate our young ones,

but to stress that ‘good’ education (integral education) – education of mind, heart, hands, and spirit,  (MHHS) is what we need to transform our communities and evolve from a “country” of disconnected ethnic or tribal groups in perpetual distress fueled by distrust, and even hatred of one another (fueling nepotism and godfatherism), into a Nation State: where they recognize the value of celebrating their differences, entrenching meritocracy, in order to become one people pursuing a common objective of building a healthy and prosperous nation where everyone wins.

The DUEF is therefore a platform to educate our individual and collective consciences (conscientization), bring awareness to what we need to do to liberate ourselves from the shackles that enslave us: tribalism, nepotism, dishonest gain, celebrating criminality (like giving chieftaincy titles to thieves), indifference to our responsibilities in holding our leaders accountable, mocking of inherent ‘dignity’ of labor, many ‘inherited sins of origin,’ among others.

Dominican Universirty Foundation

Our end goal is to raise responsible leaders and courageous citizens that are “aware” of their role in building a healthy society.

In order to do this, DUEF is here to promote a retrieval of our best Nigerian/African values: love, empathy, selflessness, and responsibility embedded in our traditional community service and African hospitality; integrity enshrined in our sense of shame (now lost to our leaders), integrity, hard-work and industry evident in our idea of “man,” and many more. Hence, conferences, workshops, shall provide channels for this process of [re]education.

We will promote at the marketplace this form of integral education now available at Dominican University Ibadan. DUEF will seek funds to provide categories of scholarships to encourage indigents to enjoy this form of education at the University and become the new breed of leaders and citizens for a new Nigeria we all look forward to in hope.
